A freshly-sown field of cereals in the mountains between Spili and Yerakari on Crete. The land is at an elevation of about 900 metres (3,000 feet) on the flanks of Mt Kedros. Crete´s mountain fields, rarely seen by visitors, enjoy the benefit of a cooler climate than the olive-clad lowlands which are parched in summer.
